The stock market had a great week but the financial web has been on fire with so many great reads out there. Rather than bore you with market statistics, let’s dig in!
Here’s a great reading list – the financial web at its best!
Market Insights
- @kimblecharting takes a long term view of long term treasuries. Are they topping here? It’s worth noting that TLT reached the measured move of its prior base before reversing.
- @allstarcharts offers his take on the Mid Cap Index. It’s the strongest index at this point as they hit new highs late in the week. Will the other indices follow suit?
- @JLyonsFundMgmt talks about what it means when the VIX and S&P 500 are near 52 week highs. This occurred constantly during the mid to late 90’s. Interestingly, it also occurred at the 2000 and 2007 tops.
- @eddyelfenbein proved the stock market likes it boring. Most of the stock market’s gains have come on boring low volatility days while high volatility days virtually wash each other out.
Trading Insights
- @alphaarchitect dissects the story of the fund manager who blew 99.9% of his client’s money. The biggest problem egotistical traders and fund managers face is the illusion of control. David does an excellent job analyzing that and breaking it down into digestible pieces.
- @bclund shares this awesome list of the type of people that deserve to lose in the market. If you find any of these first four tendencies in your own behavior, it’s best you take a step back and re-evaluate your true intentions in the market. Some of us just have other sub-conscious wants from the markets, and that’s okay. However, it’s not okay for your portfolio.
- @TMFHousel discusses attribution bias. Every single one of us tends to think our winning trades and investments come from our immaculate ability.
- @GregGuenthner brings up a great point about not getting caught up in negative opinions. The time we want to buy stocks we like is when the negatives are so obvious and well known; everyone is telling you about them.
Other Insights
- The Market Technicians Association’s (@MarketTechAssoc) monthly e-magazine is out. It’s jam packed with excellent articles across the investing spectrum. A must read!
- Fedex put together this awesome list of 25 global trends. Not all of the ideas are timely or investable, but this list will provoke thought for days on end.
- Speaking of trends, @singularityhub put this post together on Ray Kurzweil’s latest long term predictions. The singularity hub website is an awesome resource to bookmark for interesting reads about the future.
Thanks for reading!
