After finishing off yet another shallow pullback in early August, the S&P 500 spent the better part of the month marching higher. In fact, by the end of the month, the S&P 500 had recovered its entire pullback, recording new all-time highs into month end.
Volume has been very light, but that should change as investors return from vacation and transition out of a summertime mindset. September will also bring the Forex and select currency markets into focus. With the Dollar surging and the Euro ailing, the ECB meets to discuss monetary policy in the Euro Zone. And this meeting takes place as several economic indicators show the Euro zone slowing to a crawl. Will they take action? How much? Is it priced in? It seems plausible that this may bring some volatility to markets, especially as the Russian-Ukraine conflict carries on in the background (and European sanctions loom against Russia).
Tech stocks are also a focal point this month. The Nasdaq 100 has been a leader amongst the major indices, breaking out to new highs well in advance of the S&P 500. I covered Tech leadership last month on a couple occasion (here and here) and think investors would be wise to watch the Nasdaq 100 for insights into market leadership.
Shifting back to See It Market, I’d like to take a moment to recognize three new contributors that joined our team last month: Steve Burns, Karl Snyder, and David Busick. All three are experienced professionals with vast amounts of passion for investing/trading. Our community is very fortunate to have them.
With their assistance, our team was able to produce several high quality research notes and posts last month. I hope you will take some time to review some of our best posts from the month of August in our latest installment of The Best of See It Market. Adding value is important to us, so feel free to provide feedback/comments any time. As always, thank you for your readership.
