William Schmitt grew up in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and holds degrees from Marquette University (B.A. International Relations, Political Science and Spanish) and the La Follette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Master’s in International Public Affairs). Since 2006 he has worked in the field of international humanitarian relief and development, focusing in particular on post-disaster response in countries such as Nicaragua, Sudan, Afghanistan, Indonesia and Haiti. Though not completely immune to occasional bouts of excessive cynicism or misguided idealism, Bill is a self-styled pragmatist when it comes to analysis of foreign policy and international affairs.
